I was standing with a group of people about twenty feet from the edge of a Grand Canyon-like precipice, but we were behind some kind of wall and couldn’t see the cliff. A guy who looked like Q from Star Trek had each of us come to him one by one.
Once at his side, he whispered, “Look over the edge before you die.” If you refused, he pushed you over. If you looked, he let you go free.

Oh dear, that rings too close to home. In my nightmare, which has only happened PRECISELY the same way about once every few months, I'm a negotiator / diplomat. One time I'm on one side, the next time the other side. OK, so not quite precisely the same role for me, but everything else is the same. I just get to play different characters.
And it goes on for days and days, and we make a little progress. After all, logic says we can all do better than blow each others brain out.
But then we it a snag. There are some people at the table who are just trying to stir it up. It's not about best outcome for everyone, or even for those they are representing, it's about POWER and getting what they want. Whatever the cost.
The problem is the stir-it-ups are the clear-headed ones, with intelligence, commitment, and vision. The other negotiator's are just get-along, make peace, live a life types.
I dreamt that this blog actually updated more than once or twice a year. Or is that a nightmare?
Well, one of the sad things is that these negotiations always do go on for days, often years. For example, countries become independent, but it's after a while, even if the final push is almost over night.
Of course, my nightmare, which is very vivid and just like a movie, only takes as long as the brain actually spends on it.
And the other part of it is I have actually dreamt real characters, for example Gandi. One of the oddest things was being a person in the dream who I had thought was a novelist, namely Eskine Childers, and I'm not sure I new before the dream he was a negotiator! But I had to have known, right?
So I think another disturbing aspect of the dream is that in life we all have to work with one another, whether at work, or at home, for years. That's the nightmare. The Matrix would be easy.
Or is the real world just as quick as the movie, but seems slower?
Anyway, I think this is a great idea for a Web site, and I'll Blog it and come back to visit from time to time. I've given you my "best movie." Maybe someone else can pick up the torch?
Anonymous, or any one, any dreams or nightmares?
